Brandon Knight has been the most impressive rookie for the Detroit Pistons so far this year

20-year old point guard Brandon Knight has been a light in the darkness so far this year for the Pistons. He has played in 27 games (21 starts) for the Pistons so far this year and he is averaging 32.1 minutes, 12.5 points, 3.3 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game. The Pistons need to make sure that Knight gets to play at least 30 minutes per night as he is the second big piece in the rebuilding project that’s going on right now with center Greg Monroe being the first. 29-year old undrafted rookie point guard Walker Russell has been getting some P.T. as of late. He has played in 12 games (0 starts) for the Pistons so far this year and he is averaging 18.3 minutes, 4.1 points, 1.3 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game. But, he is only shooting 33.9% from the floor and that is going to cause the Pistons to cut his minutes if he doesn’t improve soon. 25-year old power forward Vernon Macklin isn’t getting much time to show what he can do so far this year. He has played in 13 games (0 starts) for the Pistons so far this year and he is averaging 4.8 minutes, 1.6 points, 1.0 rebound and 0.2 assists per game. It wouldn’t hurt to start giving Macklin a few more minutes to give the Pistons a chance to evaluate him more.

You can’t blame 21-year old center Greg Monroe for the lousy start the Pistons are off to this year. He has played in 26 games (all starts) for the Pistons so far this year and he is averaging 32.9 minutes, 16.3 points, 9.9 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game.
