Vinnie Johnson was fun to watch for the Detroit Pistons

Shooting guard Vinnie “The Microwave” Johnson was an offensive assassin off the bench for the “Bad Boys” Pistons’ teams. He played in 798 games in his 10 years with the Pistons and he averaged 25.3 minutes, 12.7 points, 3.1 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game. His best season for the Pistons came back in 1982-83, when he played in 82 games (51 starts) and he averaged 30.6 minutes, 15.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.1 steals per game. He shot 51.3% from the floor in 1982-83, which is very impressive for a guard. Johnson is still #4 in Pistons’ history in games played with 798 of them. He is also #6 in offensive rebounds (1,165), #6 in assists (2,661), #6 in steals (708) and #7 in points scored (10,146) in Pistons’ history. The Microwave made his mark for the Pistons.

Isiah Thomas is still the best player in Detroit Pistons’ history

Blogged under Blast from the Past, Bloglockers, Front Page, General by alleyoop on Saturday 1 December 2012 at 3:46 pm

Point guard Isiah Thomas was the ringleader of the Bad Boy Pistons’ teams that brought NBA Championships to the city of Detroit. He played in 979 games in his 13 years with the Pistons and he averaged 36.3 minutes, 19.2 points, 3.6 rebounds, 9.3 assists and 1.9 steals per game. Thomas is the Pistons’ all-time leading scorer with 18,822 points scored. He is also the all-time leader in franchise history in assists (9,061) and steals (1,861). Thomas is also #2 in games played (979) and #10 in three point shots made (398). Thomas was inducted into Basketball’s Hall of Fame in 2000. The only thing that used to creep me out a little bit was when Isiah Thomas and Magic Johnson used to share a smooch before they played each other.

Joe Dumars was one of the best players in Detroit Pistons’ history

Blogged under Blast from the Past, Bloglockers, Front Page, General by alleyoop on Wednesday 25 May 2011 at 5:09 pm

Current general manager Joe Dumars has been a lifer with the Detroit Pistons. Dumars played in 1,018 games (944 starts) in his 14 years with the Pistons and he averaged 34.5 minutes, 16.1 points, 2.2 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game. Dumars is the Pistons’ all-time leader in both games played (1,018) and 3-pointers made (990). Dumars is also #2 in Pistons’ history in assists (4,612), steals (902) and points (16,401). While a lot of fans might be calling for Dumars’ head in Detroit, ownership will likely give him a long leash because of his legacy in the organization.

Bill Laimbeer was one of the “Bad Boys” of the Detroit Pistons

Blogged under Blast from the Past, Bloglockers, Front Page, General by alleyoop on Wednesday 13 January 2010 at 5:44 pm

Center Bill Laimbeer was one of the meanest, nastiest players in the NBA and the Pistons loved him for it. He played in 937 games for the Pistons and he averaged 32.7 minutes, 13.5 points, 10.1 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. Laimbeer was #3 all-time in games played for the Pistons (937) and he is #3 in minutes played in Pistons’ history with 30,602. Laimbeer is the all-time leading rebounder in franchise history with 9,430 and no one is even close to him. He is also #5 in Pistons’ history in points (12,665), #9 in steals (632) and #4 in blocked shots (857). The Pistons really could use a player with Laimbeer’s skill set right now but they don’t have anyone like him on the team.
